Mardi’s “mask” and joyful personality are the inspirations for this pup’s name. Mardi Gras refers to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany (Three Kings Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday.

CH CORNERSTONE’S MARDI GRAS, HT, CGC

DOB: 5/11/2003

Description: Female, blue merle

Bred by: Rita Hellegers

A small but mighty blue-eyed over-achiever, Mardi is my first Cardigan Welsh Corgi and what a great impression she has made. This girl has beautiful expression, lovely type, ground covering movement, correct coat, superb temperament, and fabulous well-shaped ears! Her sweet personality endears her to all she meets. Mardi was nursemaid to several young Borzoi, teaching them about manners, games, and short dogs in general.

Mardi was a fun dog to show. In 2006, she earned back-to-back 4 point majors the weekend of the Bluebonnet Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club Specialty going over the specialty show winners. (Unfortunately, we missed specialty ring time by taking a wrong turn in Houston!) She completed her conformation title in 2007 with her 3rd major, beautifully presented by Barbara Weiner.

Mardi has a natural instinct for sheep and enthusiastically earned her Herding Tested title in one weekend. (Many thanks to our herding instructor Shelly Spotswood).

On the coursing field, Mardi put many a sight hound to shame with her intense drive and follow. And what great entertainment with those little legs flying! She was running prior to AKC CATS otherwise, she’d definitely have that title as well!

She’s also a frequent artist’s model, parade goer, public outreach ambassador, and Borzoi herder.

Mardi also added "juniors" to her extensive résumé by taking my nephew Chuck in the ring.

As accomplished and well bred as this pretty girl was, we naturally considered her a candidate to breed. Unfortunately, Mardi had hip dysplasia so she was spayed.
